The School Blazer

The School Blazer is a work of fiction. This novel describes the life that people live in the townships of South Africa, especially the youth. It describes the life of social decay, which includes substance abuse like alcohol, drugs, crime, gender-based violence etc. Poppy, the main character, is a reflection of what the young in the townships go through amidst this social decay. She becomes the victim of this environment. With an alcoholic mother her role models become elusive, opening her to be vulnerable as she strives to be acceptable to the world out there. She longs to belong. At a young age she starts drinking alcohol and smoke drugs. Her brutal death reflects the vicious violence that has become a norm in the townships of South Africa. Read more
